This will work in a bed that has dappled shade or that shady spot that you have always wondered what would work well here. Its tried and tested in our gardens and works well giving form and structure year-round.

The Shady is based on a bed of 3 metres in length and 2-2.5 metre wide – the arrangement can be moved around to suit your bed measurements. The Design and quantities of plants are:

2 X Tree ferns – 1 x 4ft and 1 X 2 ft high

1 X Camillia

1 X Box Ball

1 X Pittosporum Silver Queen

3 X Rhododendrons

7 X Polystichium Evergreen Ferns

3 X Heucheras

6 X Heathers

5 X Sarcococca (Christmas Box)

5 X Bags of Gee-up for planting and some feed.

This arrangement of plants will allow for some plunge planting of foxgloves or verbena in the summer and allows for plenty of room for bulbs such as tulips and alliums. By doing this, it will prolong the flowering period of this bed.
